About Dr. Avner
Dr. Avner C. Mullokandov, known to patients as Dr. Avner, is a native New Yorker who practices at Dentist on Madison, our office on Madison Avenue at East 40th Street in Midtown Manhattan. His work centers on comprehensive, cosmetic and implant dentistry.
Outside the practice, Dr. Avner enjoys spending time with his family, playing tennis and traveling. He also likes working in the lab to perfect his dental craft.
Education and training
Dr. Avner completed Adelphi University's seven-year B.S./D.D.S. joint degree program. He went on to a one-year residency at St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was the top resident in his class.
He has also completed advanced courses in aesthetics, periodontics and oral surgery through the Live Implant Training surgical program. Periodontics deals with the gums and the other tissues that support the teeth.
Fellowships in implant dentistry
Dr. Avner is a Fellow Implantologist of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI) and of the American Academy of Implant Prosthodontics (AAIP). These are the fellowships behind the letters FICOI and FAAIP after his name.
ICOI and AAIP are professional organizations in implant dentistry. Implant prosthodontics is the part of the field that deals with the crowns, bridges and dentures attached to dental implants. Each organization grants fellowship to dentists who meet its own requirements in implant dentistry, so a fellowship means more than membership alone. Fellowships are professional credentials rather than awards; the recognitions our practice has received are on our Awards and Recognition page.
Approach to care
Dr. Avner believes in conservative, preventive dentistry. His goal is to help patients keep the function and appearance of their smiles for a lifetime.
Conservative dentistry generally means keeping as much healthy natural tooth structure as possible and choosing the least invasive treatment that meets a patient's needs. Preventive dentistry aims to stop problems before they start, or to catch them while they are still small.

- Digital dentistry
- Implant surgery, placing dental implants to replace missing teeth
- Root canal treatment, which treats infection or inflammation inside a tooth
- Invisalign clear aligners for straightening teeth
- Emergency pain management for urgent problems such as toothaches, abscesses and broken teeth, during office hours
Our office also has an on-site dental laboratory, which we use for restorations such as crowns and bridges.

Dr. Avner speaks English, Spanish, Russian and Farsi, so you can talk with him about your care in any of these languages.
